High School Transfer Program
The Syracuse City School District High School Transfer Program provides parents and guardians the opportunity to request that their child receive a transfer to a different high school within the District. Students entering grades 9 – 11 are eligible to submit one High School transfer request and must meet the criteria detailed below in order for the request to be considered. Students entering 12th grade are not eligible for the High School Transfer program.
Important Note: Students are eligible to submit three (3) High School Choice applications and one (1) High School Transfer application (must meet criteria listed below) for a total of four (4) applications.
Students who attend Frazer, Westside Academy, as well as a portion of the students who attend Grant and who reside in the West quadrant do not have a feeder high school. Therefore, these students are required to participate in the High School Choice and High School Transfer process. If the student does not submit an online application or is not accepted through the process, the District will assign them to one of the comprehensive high schools – Corcoran, Henninger, and Nottingham. The Department of Student Registration will correspond with the family to obtain input and provide detail regarding the assignment for the upcoming school year.
Families of students who will be entering grades 9-11 are eligible to request a transfer during the transfer period if they will be:
- Returning to their home school (based on the physical address of the parent/guardian and child) and joining a sibling who is enrolled in the school and will remain for at least one year.
- Joining a sibling only.
- Returning to their home school only.
- Students Currently Attending Frazer or Westside Academy at Blodgett, or students who live in the West Quadrant and attend CORE, ELMS, or Grant.
Students who are eligible to enter the lottery, but not selected in the lottery, will be automatically assigned a waitlist number through the Smartchoice Online Lottery system. Students are eligible to remain on the waitlist for the first two marking periods of the school year. The Department of Student Registration will contact the parent/guardian if or when a seat becomes available. Families will be required to re-apply for a transfer each year, but will be given priority in the lottery the subsequent year only that their child is not selected.
Students who are waitlisted will be required to attend their home school (new students), remain enrolled in their current school (active students) or attend their feeder school for those students transitioning to 6th and 9th grade.
Parents/guardians will receive a letter from the Department of Student Registration detailing their acceptance or waitlist status.
*Lottery will be conducted if necessary.
