The Expeditionary Learning Middle School (ELMS) was established in 2008. The school is located next to Clary Middle School in the former McCarthy School building on Amidon Drive.  ELMS is a small school community of 130 students in grades 6, 7 and 8.

ELMS is a unique program that requires both student and parent/guardian participation.  Students participate in a “Crew” class each day, one overnight trip per year, two student-led conferences per year, and two Exhibition Nights where student work is displayed.  All incoming 6th graders are required to attend a four-week summer orientation program.  Through “learning expeditions”, students are privileged to learn from experts in various fields of study and participate in field work opportunities in the community.  ELMS students are invested in learning, committed to contributing to a positive and safe school community and accepting of all people.  Students gain admission to ELMS through an online application process.  Recommendations for admission to ELMS are made to students and families that demonstrate a commitment to creating and promoting a positive, safe learning environment, and to the program components described above.

The application period for the 2014-15 school year is now closed.

Please call the Central Registration Center with any questions at 435-4545.
