The Syracuse City School District K – 8 School Transfer Program provides parents and guardians the opportunity to request that their child receive a transfer to: his/her home school (the school to which a student is assigned based on his/her residence or home address); join a sibling (brother or sister residing in the same household) who is enrolled in the school and will remain for at least one year; or a school within his/her home school quadrant (the area in which they reside).  See School Quadrant Information for details.

remain for at least one year.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Please Read!

Submission of a School Transfer Request does not guarantee that a student will be transferred. Prior to the approval of any school transfer request, it must be determined that your child is eligible for the request based on the criteria above, and that there is space available in your school of choice. Approval of a transfer request is not based on the time or date an application is submitted during the transfer period.

If there are more students eligible for a transfer than there are seats available, the district will conduct a student lottery.  Students who are eligible to enter the lottery, but not selected through the lottery process, will be placed on a waitlist for the 2017-2018 school year.  Parents/guardians will be notified of their approval status on or before July 10, 2017.  It is important to note that your child will remain on the K-8 Transfer waitlist through the second marking period.  Waitlists do not carry over to the next school year.  Therefore, if your child is not assigned to your school or choice by the end of the second marking period, you will be required to submit a new transfer request during the month of April 2018.

Transfer waitlists for grades K-8 DO NOT carry over from year to year, and  will not be honored after the second marking period of the school year. Please note that if a student is placed on a waitlist, but is not transferred during the 2017-2018 SY, the parent or guardian MUST complete another transfer request in the spring of 2018.

If a student is not transferred into the school of choice he/she is required to maintain enrollment in their current school or feeder school if they are transitioning from 5th to 6th grade or 6th to 7th (Salem Hyde and Porter only).  Please Note: a feeder school for 5th graders is the middle school that a student is projected to attend once they leave elementary school.  The district has a specified feeder school pattern. For more information, please click on the District Feeder Pattern link located to the left of this document.
